Sean John aka Diddy goes green!!!

Yep I'm sooo happy that celebrities are starting to catch on!!! Guess who has jumped on the bandwagon (not like I didnt give it away in the title) but none other that Sean "Diddy" Combs. Its nice to see celebrities tapping into the green side of life and doing more to give back to the Earth. Hopefully with his two new sexy stores in LA and Miami more high profile people as well (as well as the lows) jump on quick...Check out the video of the opening in Miami. If you just happen to be in LA on Friday, come see the opening of the new Sean John store on Sunset - 8570 W. Sunset Blvd, LA, CA.

Supposedly everything in the store is recycled material, such as metal and wood. All of the fixtures used in the first Miami pop up store are being reused as well as the packing material that transported the fixtures to LA. This too is elimnating waste, go Diddy I like your style!!!

I can't wait til Friday, this is gonna be hot like my trip to Aruba!!

Tell me something new....

So tonight on CBS nightly news there was a segment about how China is the #1 polluter in the world and how the US is a close #2 **Hands on my cheeks, mouth wide open** Really?!? I am so surprised, not really...I believe the shocker of the whole segment was the average cost to employ a chinese worker was $.81 per hour compared to a whopping $23.00 per hour for US employees. Cleary I would not be able to afford my Louis Vuitton or Gucci purses on that salary but I'm sure if I was there I could definitely get the best of the best knock offs...

I digress the story basically states the US better get on board with Clean Energy Alternatives or be left in the dust by our chinese compeititors. They are making strides in this area and we are strugggglin to keep up. If you want to check out the news story, be my guest...

Even Wal-Mart is going green..

Did you know that America's favorite mega superstore is going green? Well I'm not so sure how green the company is going but they are definitely making it easier for consumers to buy green products. This month Wal-mart will be celebrating Wal-mart Earth Month. From milk to mulch (not really sure about the mulch, it kinda defeats the purpose) and light bulbs to laundry detergent, many waste reduction, energy conserving, and organic products will be available to the mainstream (of course at a discount price). I know everybody loves free stuff, so on April 19th make sure you get to Wal-mart to get your reusable shopping bag. If you miss those bags you can buy one for $1. Now there is no talk about how much money Wal-mart will be giving back to help fund environmental initiatives or their offsets for transportation of the new products they are selling. So get to your local Wal-mart and get these inexpensive products while they last. At least Wal-mart has one small article in the news that's positive.

Where will you be when the lights go out?

Starting at 8:00 on Saturday March 29, 2008, people all over the world will be shutting their lights off for an hour, to draw attention to the connection of energy use and climate change. The event will start in New Zealand and move westward, hitting places like Manila, Dubai, New York and Chicago. The event will end in San Francisco, where the Bay Bridge and Golden Gate Bridge will go dark for an hour. Of course there will be people interested in cashing in on this event. Now I wouldn't suggest robbing your local 7-11 or Best Buy(please put the TV back, the lights are off but the police are still in full effect!!) but you might want to take part of some of the interesting activities. A place in Michigan is offering lamplight yoga, a Phoenix bar will offer Eco-tinis and the waiters will wear glow-in-the-dark-necklaces, and the Sheraton in Chicago will be checking in guest by candlelight. So if you can remember turn off your lights at 8:00 and do your part to bring awareness to the earth's energy issues. Check out the article below.

Have a Green Summer!

We're 5 days into spring and summer is upon us. Its time to put on your short shorts, flip flops and fire up the grill. But wait...this is a new year, why don't we start new traditions. Let's have a green summer! Come on, its easy, and I'll get you started:

Barbecues-
Did you know that on the 4th of July, nearly 60 million barbecues take place on this day? In the form of lighter fluid, charcoal, gas, electricity, that's nearly enough energy to power 20,000 households for a year. Yes you can "green" your grill! You may want to use a cleaner-burning propane or electric grill instead of your traditional charcoal burning grill. Can't live without that smoky flavor? Try grilling with the briquettes that have a starter already inside the briquettes. Lighter fluid releases smog forming VOCs so you may even want to switch to a chimney starter. A good natural products to use is Cowboy Charcoal This charcoal is much cleaner than your traditional briquettes.

Food -
When it comes to eating who know you could eat green and no I don't just mean your vegetables. For your barbecue, grill organic, hormone free, chicken, beef, pork and fish. Don't forget those organic fruits and vegetables on the side. For your cookout use reusable dishware, silverware, and tablecloths. Try cloth napkins but if you didn't plan that well, look for biodegradable or recycled-paper dinnerware, cups and napkins.

Cleaning -
Cleaning up is never fun but if you use a natural cleaner like SoyClean or OrangePlus, for your grill, you'll be doing your part to help mother earth. Many mainstream household brands are starting to finally jump on the bandwagon and make more natural household cleaners. Greenworks by Clorox has several items for your kitchen and bathroom so check those out. Its time for Spring Cleaning!!

Keeping Cool -
I know when summer hits, many of you are reaching for the AC. Once again, lets try something different this year. Instead of turning your AC down, turn your AC up to 72 degrees. Keeping your AC at a steady (that means keeping it at the same temperature all day) can save you plenty of cash over the summer. Still too hot?? Turn on a fan, keeping your fans circulating will help reduce the heat and keep the electricity bill down as well. If its not all that hot, especially at dusk and at night, open a window. Try an evaporative/swampcooler, like small heaters , these ACs cool large areas with minimal energy. http://www.air-n-water.com/swamp-coolers-evaporative.htm

Lawn -
As many of you know, my daddy loves his lawn. It is going to be a task, as it has been for the past few years, to get him to cut back on watering his beautiful well manicured lawn. My suggestion to all you grassheads, like Papa Talley, is to water your lawn at dusk or at night. Its much cooler and the water won't evaporate as quickly. You may want to even get rid of that grass and go for a more eco-friendly lawn. We can talk about this later :0) What about those pesty west-nile carrying mosquitoes you ask? Well go for products like the Mosquito Magnet and Garlic barrier. You can even plant rosemary in your garden to ward them away.

If you have any good summer green tips let me know...

If all your friends jumped off the cliff, would you?

As I was perusing the Internet this morning, I came across an article about Edward Norton, a celebrity that is all about going green. Who is this guy???I had no idea of who he was, I had to look him up on IMDB.com (Apparently he was in the Italian Job and Fight Club). Even though he's a no name to me he is really making a name for himself in the environmental community.

Mr. Norton has created a non-profit called BP Solar Neighbors. The programs helps celebrities help others. For every solar powered system a celebrity buys for his or her home another system is donated to a deserving low income family in South Central Los Angeles. Well Mr. Norton you are alright with me. If you don't already know these solar powered systems can be quite costly. Sure you say there are other ways to help out but imagine having your $200 electricity bill drop to $20...I know, that's absolutely fabulous!!!

Edward Norton isn't the only celebrity going green, Cameron Diaz, George Clooney, Brad and Angie, Leonardo DiCaprio and the list goes on and on.

So when I say if all your friends jumped off the cliff, would you? Maybe you should...

Check out these links to see which of your favorite superstars are going green.
